We are frequently asked about how to find the cheapest quotations for insurance of mobility scooters.
These days there are more and more companies offering insurance and to be honest it is really very inexpensive to take out a comprehensive policy which insures you for the scooter as well as for third-party liability.
The major household name insurance companies who typically specialise in providing car insurance and house and home insurance, rarely offer insurance policies on mobility scooters. So you won’t be able to get insurance from Saga, Age Concern, Direct Line, Churchill, Admiral or Aviva.
You might expect the major comparison websites such as Go Compare, Compare the Market, Confused.com, MoneySupermarket to offer insurance but at this moment in time they don’t.
Fortunately we have scoured the market to find you the best deals and by filling out some basic details above using our quick quote form, we can get back to you asap with a price and full details of what is included in the policy.
We highly recommend that you also read our page on frequently asked questions on mobility scooter insurance and the many reasons why it is strongly suggested you take out a policy.
Although it is not a legal requirement to have mobility scooter insurance, it is possible that should you have an accident with another person or their property, you could be liable to substantial damages and end up in court.
Of course it is very difficult to be specific when naming insurance companies because great attention and care must be taken to make sure you are comparing like with like. A cheap quote from one insurance company may not include certain benefits that a more expensive policy includes.
It is absolutely defeating the purpose of taking out insurance if the cheapest quotation does not cover you for the situations that you are looking to protect against.
Having said this, we do list a number of different providers who offer insurance for mobility scooters and we have made sure that we have listed the companies that we know offer the very best value for money and who are typically the cheapest providers of mobility scooter insurance.
6 Tips to Get the Cheapest Insurance Quotation
- Pay an annual lump sum instead of instalments which often carry an interest charge.
- Use a price comparison website that shops around on your behalf to give you the cheapest provider your specifications.
- Try an insurance broker who may be able to get access to deals that are not available to members of the general public.
- Try contacting your existing insurance company who may be able to offer you a discount because you are already a customer of theirs.
- Increase the excess on the policy which does mean you increase the risk to yourself but at least it brings the premium down should you consider yourself low risk.
- Negotiate the removal of unwanted clauses in the policy. In other words should a standard insurance policy include coverage which you do not require, remove these unwanted benefits in order to get a lower price.

John says
I have FSH muscular dystrophy.
I am OK walking with a stick walking short distances but would like to hire a mobility scooter whilst on holiday in the Algarve. Do you know of an insurance company which will insure me whilst using it?
I have an annual holiday insurance the Holiday Extras, but they will not cover me, unless I am taking my own scooter. I do not own one.
I have booked one through the hotel but I am told it is not insured and I must find my own insurance.
Do you have any suggestions?
